Ashwell

We found a neat book that had several walks around Great Britain and we chose the one in Ashwell to start our travels in England. It's a cute little town about an hour away. It was a town that was hit really hard by the Black Plague.

This church had graffitti on the wall depicting the Black Plague and the total destruction the disease caused. It was amazing seeing the wall with pictures and words carved into it from almost 500 years ago.

Right after we got to the church they opened the bell tower to a tour group and we were able to tag along. It was quite the walk up the winding staircase and it almost made us dizzy going up and down. The view from the top was incredible looking out at the houses, and green and yellow fields.

This is a rapeseed field. They were just gorgeous to look at! The fields were huge!

The walk the book took us on was a route that we would have never known existed. Most of the time we were walking in the middle of someone's field. Several times we thought we were tresspassing but the book lead us perfectly to another walkway, or had a step to hop the fence.

They have some pretty neat hedges here. I'm still waiting to see a little hedgehog that's alive(and not dead in the middle of the road!)

There are thatched roofs all over. I thought this was a cool picture of the house and church. It's a beautiful countryside and we are excited to keep exploring!
